Cream Chargers

Here’s How to Indulge in Sweet Desserts without Guilt

You might be the type of person who wants to forego eating dessert because in general, they are sweet and loaded with fats. But, here are some ideas that will make you think twice about seeing dessert as an unhealthy indulgence.

Fruits

Mangoes, bananas, kiwis, and pears are some of the fruits that many like to eat for dessert. It is a well-known fact that fruits are rich in vitamins and nutrients so you know that an apple is not only delicious, eating it also has additional health benefits.

If you want to enhance the sweet taste of the fruits without adding sweeteners, you can roast them in foil over an open fire or in the oven. The sweet taste of the natural sugar in fruits like pineapples, peaches, and figs become more pronounced because of the cooking process. Some fruits like strawberries and raspberries can be steeped in balsamic vinegar to make its flavor and sweetness more evident.

If you have a sweet tooth and are not contented with the sugar content of most fruits, you can add honey instead of sugar. Honey is a healthier substitute because unlike processed sugar that lack essential vitamins and minerals, it contains 22 amino acids and various minerals that are necessary for metabolism.

Ice Cream

Yes, ice cream is a sweet dessert that you can eat without feeling guilty over the calories, that is, if you make it yourself. When you make your own ice cream, you know what goes in the mixture so you can choose only the healthiest ingredients. Use non-fat cream or yogurt, add flavorings like natural vanilla, and gelatin for that extra richness and creaminess without the fat. You can also make sherbets out of pureed fruits with honey as the sweetener.

Cakes and Muffins

Again, you can enjoy these treats when you bake them yourself or when you buy them from a health food store or bakeshop. However, you can follow many simple recipes so that you will not be intimidated to make the cakes and muffins yourself. Some common ingredients are carrots, blueberries, oatmeal, walnuts, and just about anything else that’s healthy. You can also use low fat milk, yogurt, honey, maple syrup, and low fat margarine as substitute for the other ingredients.

Pies

Just when you thought the list of guilt-free desserts has ended, you see another pleasant and welcome surprise – pies. Like cakes and muffins, you can enjoy different kinds of pies for dessert without worrying about gaining weight or risking your health. All you need to do is learn how to substitute the fatty and unhealthy ingredients with delicious and nutritious ones. Use fresh or dried fruits, gelatin, low fat milk, low fat peanut butter, and others.

To make any dessert as special as the person they are intended for, why not top your favorite fruit, ice cream, cake or pie dessert with a dollop of freshly made whipped cream? Combine a low fat cream with some flavorings and place it inside a cream whipper. Plug the cream charger into the charger holder and then shake the whipper vigorously. Discard the charger and enjoy real and guilt-free whipped cream.
